Opening Gambit
Common wisdom has it that most individuals form a judgment about a new person within the first few seconds of introduction. No matter how professional the interviewer is, they will form judgments in an incredibly short space of time. Remember that first impressions really count.
As the interviewer arrives stand, smile and offer a firm handshake. As they introduce themselves smile and acknowledge the introduction by introducing yourself. Make sure there is good eye contact.
Once the greetings are over let the interviewer lead the conversation – most will ask how your journey was, or something fairly tame to start with. Always let them lead. The interviewer needs to feel in control and at their ease. Your job is to make this as easy as possible for them.
