Question Response

They key to good responses lies in being a good listener.  Make sure you have fully understood the question before you answer.  If for any reason the question was not clear then ask for clarification. If the question seems so broad that the answer will take half an hour then there is a good chance you haven’t understood what the interviewer is after. Try to narrow the scope of the question.

Answers to questions should be clear and address the issue at hand.  Supporting evidence should be offered to back up your answers where appropriate.

There are a number of questions that continually come up in interview. Examples of these are:

- What are your strengths?
- What are you weaknesses?
- Why do you want to work for us?
- Why are you leaving you current role?
- What motivates you to succeed?
- Where do you see yourself in two years time?
- What are your long term ambitions?
Few candidates think enough about possible answers to this line of questioning.  Part of your preparation should be question anticipation so that you can have some answers already formulated.

Try not to be glib with your answers, as you need to appear to give the issues some thought.  Do not exaggerate, as the interviewer will most probably realise that you are ‘talking up’ your actual experience.
